The Secret Science ProjectThat Almost Ate the School- Monarch Award 2006

Judy Sierra wrote this fun, hilarious book. This is about a 3rd grade girl who does not know what to do for her science project. She sees that everyone else in her class is already working on something, and she gets worried. The 3rd grader ends up buying a science project off of the internet! Little does she know, this big ball of yeast was going to turn big and mean, and eat things like her cat, sister, dad, and teacher!
The pictures, illustrated by Stephen Gammell, are colorful, appealing, and very detailed. My favorite part of the story is that every two sentences rhymed. It is easy to read aloud and find a rhythm to, to keep the students interested. This will also be a good reminder for the students to do their projects on time, because if they have to reach for the desperate measures, it could end up a disaster!!
